Residence, West Tisbury MA

Located in the serene center of the island, the site is a beautiful sloping meadow with views of open skies and hills in the distance. This is a magical place. Decades ago, the family purchased a (very slightly) renovated horse barn. There was no insulation and all of the interior “walls” were a single board thick. It’s all pretty much the same way now. Having walked the property with the man who bought it all those years ago (he’s quite a tour guide), I learned more about the general lay of the land and the family history with the place than I could have hoped. The significance this place has accrued over the years, from real “events”, like holidays and weddings; to simple day to day living is immeasurable. But, like many families, there are marriages, possible grandchildren and evolving desires for a place. So, the notion of a new residence across the meadow and looking back at the barn (which will remain happily untouched) was hatched. We are honored to be working with the family on this treasured piece of property. Now we just have to build something worthy of sharing the meadow with that grand old barn. I’m sure we will.
