Murchison Gatehouse
On the Murchison House estate, the old Gatehouse sits by the road where it was placed some seventy or so years ago. Like the main house, this little structure has a great story of its own – the building itself is a combination of smaller buildings that were moved to the site in stages over a number of years. Some of the parts are more than 125 years old, some parts of the building date from the 1950’s. Not surprisingly, the house has also had several careers over the years. It first served as a caretaker’s residence and evolved through many iterations culminating in its use as a full-fledged magazine publishing studio and print shop. Unfortunately, like the rest of the estate, the gatehouse had fallen into disrepair and nearly to its demise. The gatehouse is now being fully renovated and restored to Historic District rules. We are also proud of the fact that energy efficiency and eco-effective solutions have been a part of the planning process from the very first step. This extensive refit will leave almost no part of this little collection of buildings untouched and will provide a new, state of the art lease on life to a lovely building on a storied property.
